RECALIBRATION
“The past is simply a prologue and the future transforms into a lush and fertile landscape, waiting for something new to take root and thrive.”
To reset, adjust, or fine-tune. Eclipses and the denouement of August heat. Accuracy and truth. Fixing a tool or changing a plan.
Having moved across the country and across landscapes, I’m feeling my own liminal capacities. Life is beginning to settle into something still unknown. There is the old, the new, and the not-yet-known. Like all moments in life, I suppose, but this one feels particularly potent.
My therapist reminds me to slow down. To release the internal pressure to stay busy, to move quickly through this realignment, and instead create enough spaciousness to notice what I’m feeling and what is actually here to work with.
The whirlwind of fear and anxiety that can grip me. The return of insomnia. The denial of my body’s need for rest. A slackening of the resources and routines I know help ground me. The feeling of moving out of alignment.
I’m in recalibration mode.
Taking what is new and tuning it alongside what came before. Making new alignments, new goals, new ways of moving. Returning to my values and to the mantra: slow is sovereign.
Moving counter to the anxious, yelling cacophony inside me. Allowing what feels good to have a voice, and maybe even to lead. Trusting the wisdom of the whisper.
I find it in light shining through the trees. In the slow tones of Gene Ammons’ My Romance harmonizing with crickets and the breeze. In the texture of cloth, the weight of metal, the movement of my body through subtle gesture and deeper breaths.
To be like lava.
To let what is ready to change be changed, and allow what is emerging to grow from the sweet fertility of the self who is here now: present, alive, and slow.
And perhaps this is where we meet.
Is it possible we are ready to do this work together? To gather and explore the edges of being and becoming? Are we wanting? Are we ready?
Join me this fall for Wardrobe Rituals, where we’ll explore the material shifts of our lives. Adornment becomes both practice and method for becoming: a way of making the immaterial material.
Experiment. Fuck it up. Do it again.
And be seen and supported in the journey.
